Seeing through both eyes (v8.4)
Year 3 students will consolidate their understanding around whether objects are living, once lived or never lived throughout the day as
they group living things based on observable features and distinguish them from non-living things.
During the Mangrove forest walk, on to the beach and into the classroom,
they will investigate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples’ systems of classifying living things and how these systems differ from those used by contemporary science.

How does it live? (v9)
Year 3 students will receive mystery items and a map in the post from Dr Antenna (the forgetful Entomologist) as a pre visit activity to spark curiosity and wonder before visiting Nudgee Beach EEC.
Using these mystery items, students will pose questions to explore patterns and relationships and make predictions based on observations as they endeavour to classify the items as living, once lived and never lived.
During the day, they will
compare characteristics of living and non-living things and examine the differences between the life cycles of plants and animals as they discover the interdependent life cycles of the mud crab and yellow mangroves along the boardwalk and the Richmond Birdwing Butterfly and the Birdwing Butterfly vine at the Centre.
