Nudgee Beach Environmental Education Centre (NBEEC) offer tailored programs to support schools delivering The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award.

We specialise in the Adventurous Journey (AJ) component across Bridge, Bronze, and Silver levels. Our programs are designed to develop students' resilience, leadership and environmental stewardship through immersive outdoor experiences.

What We Offer

  • Preparation, Practice and Qualifying Journeys, aligned with Award requirements.
  • Overnight hiking and canoeing expeditions for Bronze and Silver AJs.
  • Programs based at Nudgee Beach and off-site at locations such as Lake Samsonvale, or D'Aguilar Range.
  • Bushwalking, canoeing and camping experiences, led by qualified educators with bushwalking and expedition accreditations.
  • Integrated learning in navigation, campcraft, teamwork, and sustainability.

We run AJs only during school term time (not on weekends or school holidays).

Group Requirements

To ensure safe and effective delivery of all AJs:

  • We work with groups a minimum of 14 and maximum 21 students
  • A minimum 1:7 staff-to-student ratio is required
  • At least two visiting school staff must accompany the group, with appropriate fitness, and experience, plus camping skills. Our NBEEC teachers have certified bushwalking, canoeing and expedition experience.
  • Visiting staff must have completed the relevant Duke of Edinburgh Award Leader training, as advised by the Queensland Award Office
  • Hire of camping and expedition equipment can be negotiated upon booking

Why Choose NBEEC?

With our expert staff, flexible program locations, and a strong focus on safety, inclusion and sustainability, we create opportunities for young people to connect with themselves, others and the natural world, while fulfilling Award requirements.
