​Year 1 students will be encou​raged to use their five senses as they search for dif​ferent habitats along the mangrove boardwalk and at Nudgee Beach to discover ​ how different places meet the needs of living things. They will focus on the external features of both animals and plants as a science focus and the natural, managed and constructed features of places and how they can be cared for as a HASS focus.​​​​

Year 1 students will identify the basic needs of plants and animals, including air, water, food or shelter, and describe how the places they live meet those needs with a science focus, as they explore the Mangrove Forest and beach areas of Nudgee Beach.  

With a HASS focus they will identify the location and nature of the natural, managed and constructed features of local places, the ways places change, and how they can be cared for by people.​
